Thank you for taking the time to visit my online store.

As a young child, I remember watching my Mum with a tape measure in hand, measuring, cutting pattern pieces with such precision and then taking fabric that had been carefully chosen from our local fabric shop (we were lucky to have 2-3 fabrics shops to choose from) and crouching on our lounge floor to pin paper pattern pieces. I remember watching in awe as my Mum with such precision, used  her sharp shears to cut into the fabric. I can still hear Mum’s shears cutting into the precious fabric; some forty years later.

I remember as a child, lying in bed late at night hearing Mum sewing at her old Elna waiting for Dad to arrive home from work.  I would wake up the next day and Mum would have a new dress or coat ready for me to try on. 

As a child, I thought all Mums sewed and made their daughters clothes. Judging by the comments I would get from my friends about the clothes my Mum would make for me, it was apparent that my Mum was one of the very few Mums that could sew. I was very lucky.

I think back now of those wonderful memories and look at my Mum who no longer sews and feel so proud that I have been able to continue with this craft.

As time passed and I grew older, my interest in sewing developed more and more until one day, my Mum said it was time that I tried my hand at creating something from a piece of fabric. I was all of 7 or 8 years old and I was so excited especially after so many years watching Mum (it seemed like a long time for a 7 or 8 year old that was eager to try her hand at sewing) and it was much more exciting that learning to darn holey old socks with Grandma! (little did I know then that darning was helping me to learn about hand sewing).

Mum taught me about fabrics, how to measure correctly, to place correctly, warp and weft threads, cutting on the cross of the fabric; most of all, Mum taught me what joy could come from taking a piece of fabric and turning it into something that I could wear.  Whenever Mum would go to the city she would always go to one of the big fabric shops and bring me home some amazing fabric that we didn’t have at our local fabric shop. Thank you so much Mum for sharing your passion of sewing with me!

As the years passed and I became a teenager in the 80’s, something wonderful was happening - some amazing fabric designs were being used; mesh, florals, corduroy, paisley, funky prints, fabrics with pop stars (my all-time favourite; my Boy George crop top matched with my Madonna styled mesh top!).

My biggest challenge was when I was16 and going out for my first New Year’s Eve. I sewed for 24 hours straight and made a denim jacket and dress with 26buttons. Mum’s old Elna was still going strong but my Mum was the best at making buttonholes. Mum to the rescue with 26 buttonholes: all done in the blink of an eye by my Mum.

When I was 18, I got my very first sewing machine; a little Janome My Style 18; my very first “big” purchase. From there, my passion for sewing grew as did my keen interest in new sewing machine technology.

I got my Janome overlocker 10 years later (back then machines were expensive but boy did they last) which I still have today (some 20 years later) and it runs like a dream when I use it to finish off my doll clothes and face masks.

In the early 2000’s after moving overseas, I discovered machine embroidery and purchased my Janome 300e.  As the years went on, machine embroidery designs became more complex and I moved up to my Janome 12000 (sewing and machine embroidery combo machine) and now my Janome500e.  What can’t you do with these machines!?

With having all of this amazing equipment and a sewing room that looked more like a gift shop, my family encouraged me to set up a little business so that my dolls, plushies, cushion covers and other creations could be shared with others.  I thought about it and decided what did I have to lose? 

I wanted to make creations for others that appreciated items that were lovingly made by hand.  I wanted to make items that were made from quality fabrics and that were made to last; I wanted to use my experience and knowledge as a seamstress to bring my business idea to life; hence, with the help and support of my family this is how Lil-aiges Creations came about in 2013.

As part of my business plan I wanted to make quality creations that would withstand the test of time and that could be handed down generation to generation.

In the back of my mind, I also knew I was tired of buying cheaply made items from overseas – I identified a niche in the market for customers who too were tired of spending their hard-earned money on keepsakes that were of poor quality and did not last. 

My creations are created with the utmost care to ensure that they last. I triple stitch all my  creations to ensure that they are safe and durable.  They then undergo a stringent quality assurance process for strength, durability, and safety.

I enjoy working closely with my clients on their custom orders, ensuring they have a say in what the finished product looks like and that I meet their expectations.

Sewing is my place of serenity. A place to escape to and I feel at home in.
